What Happens During a Brake Pad Replacement

Once the tires are gone, they can remove the bolts securing the calipers in place, which allows them to swing outwards and expose the brake pad. When to Replace Your Brake Pads
For a majority of drivers, brake pads last about 40,000 to 50,000 miles and then will have to be replaced. However, most brake pads these days have a built-in system to let you know when they need to be replaced. Close to the bottom of the brake pad, there’s a small metal shim that, when it makes contact with your rotor, makes a high-pitched squealing noise. That squealing noise is a giveaway that you need to replace your brake pads soon or risk extensive damage to your rotors and calipers.
