Conventional Oil Change
Just as it sounds, conventional oil is the most basic type you can get for your engine. It's refined crude oil that is designed to keep your engine's moving metal parts lubricated; however, it begins to break down under the high temperatures created by combustion. To ensure that it doesn't lose its lubricating properties, you should have conventional oil replaced every 3,000 miles or every three months -- whichever comes first.
Synthetic Oil Change
Synthetic oil costs a bit more than conventional oil, but it's well worth the extra cost. For one thing, it keeps your engine better lubricated, thanks to its even molecular structure and size. What's more, synthetic oil includes detergent additives that can help keep your engine clean and can even clean out any sludge that may be in there. Best of all? Synthetic oil takes much longer to break down than conventional oil. If your vehicle is equipped with synthetic oil, you can have an oil change performed every 10,000 miles or once a year (whichever comes first).
